Seminar Unit
Highly specialised skills training
Linguarama has a Seminar Unit dedicated to providing specialised skills training. Recent training has included:
- Meetings
- Negotiations
- Presentations
- Writing Skills
The seminars concentrate on the language which delegates require to be effective. However, there is usually also some analysis of the business skill itself in order to help the delegates work with the language as effectively as possible.
Who are the participants?
Seminar participants are non-native speakers of English who should preferably have a good intermediate language level equivalent to Linguarama Competence Level 2.0 or above.
How many people are there in a seminar group?
We suggest an even number of people in a group with an average number of six or eight people to ensure maximum participation.
How long are seminars?
Usually three days but for broader language development, five days are advised. Longer or shorter seminars can also be arranged if appropriate.
Who are the seminar trainers?
Linguarama uses its most experienced and senior trainers to teach on seminars. Linguarama's seminar trainers have had extensive experience in training personnel from a wide variety of international companies and government ministries.
What happens before the seminar?
Linguarama designs a specialised pack of seminar materials for the client organisation. For Writing Skills Seminars, it is essential to provide examples of relevant authentic documentation. For Negotiation Seminars, general management training case studies can be used on the seminar or, if the client wishes, special case studies relevant to the client's business can be designed. For this, detailed information from the company is required well in advance of the seminar. In addition to the seminar materials, participants will also be given a relevant Linguarama reference book, 'Meetings', 'Negotiations', 'Presentations', or 'Writing Skills'.
The Seminar Unit also designs Cultural Awareness Training.
Follow-up to the seminar
Linguarama will send a seminar report to the company, outlining the content of the seminar and reporting on each participant. We are able to arrange a follow-up day or second seminar if required and in some cases (e.g. for Writing Skills Seminars) we can provide post-seminar tasks providing consolidation or further language work.
If you are interested in arranging a seminar, please contact your local Linguarama centre or the GPP Seminar Unit.
